クリスマスの木を見つけて

Finding the Christmas Tree

保育雑誌で、1年間毎月、表紙を開いてすぐのページに登場する
「Welcome Window」という扉ページのオブジェを担当させていただきました。

For one year, I had the opportunity to create an object for a nursery magazine, featured on the opening page just after the cover each month, called “Welcome Window.”

ふだんの貼り絵イラストはデータで納品することが多いのですが、このシリーズでは、木枠を作り、その中に貼り絵のパーツを組み込んで、
ひとつのオブジェとして完成させていました。
完成したオブジェは、きれいな色の背景の前で撮影され、誌面に掲載されます。
どんな雰囲気で撮影されているのか、見本誌が届いてページを開く瞬間は、毎回とても楽しみでした。

While my collage illustrations are usually delivered as digital data, this series was created as physical objects.
I built wooden frames and placed the collage parts inside them, finishing each piece as a three-dimensional object.
After that, the completed objects were photographed against beautifully colored backgrounds and appeared in the magazine.
I always looked forward to opening the sample copy to see how each piece had been photographed.

こちらは冬のページ。
まるでクリスマスツリーのような木を、男の子と女の子が見上げています。
添えられている文章も、私が書いたものです。
「クリスマスの木を見つけました。いろいろな色に輝くのがきれいで、寒さを忘れて見とれています」

This one is the winter scene.
A boy and a girl are gazing at a tree that looks just like a Christmas tree.
The accompanying text was also written by me.
“We found a Christmas tree.
It sparkles in many colors, and we forget the cold as we gaze at it.”

木枠は、市販のフレームとはまったく違い、
凹凸のあるパーツを組み合わせた、少し工作感のある仕上がりです。
主にバルサ材を使い、アクリル絵の具でおおらかに色を塗りました。

The wooden frame is quite different from a store-bought one.
It has a handmade, crafted feel, made by assembling uneven parts together.
I mainly used balsa wood and painted it loosely with acrylic paints.

冬の空には、白いボタンやビーズで表した雪が、静かに降っています。

In the winter sky, snow made from white buttons and beads is gently falling.

白くふわふわした雪の地面に立ち、
ツリーのてっぺんの星飾りを見つめる男の子と女の子。
ふたりとも、あたたかそうな服を着ています。

Standing on the soft, white snowy ground, the boy and the girl look up at the star decoration on top of the tree.
Both of them are dressed in warm clothes.
