The Bear Family and My Chae-ring
子どものころ、お父さんがメモ帳に描いてくれた絵が、今もたくさん残っています。
大切にとっておいて、本当によかったと思える宝物です。
From my childhood, many drawings that my father sketched for me in a small memo pad still remain.
They are treasures I’m truly glad I kept.
改めて見返すと、
「お父さん、こんなに絵が上手だったんだ」と驚きます。
特別に絵を描く人だったわけではないのに、
下描きもせず、その場にあった子ども用のカラーペンで、身近な小物や人形をさらっと描いてくれました。
Looking at them again now, I’m surprised to think, “Wow, Dad was this good at drawing.”
He wasn’t someone who drew as a hobby, yet without any preliminary sketch, he would casually draw everyday objects and little toys using whatever children’s colored pens were nearby.
このクマの親子は、いったい何を見て描いたのでしょう。
きっと、どこかにモデルがいたはずです。
I wonder what he was looking at when he drew this mother and baby bear.
There must have been some kind of model somewhere.
クマの下に描かれているカラフルな5色の輪っかは、
「チェーリング」という、昭和のころに流行ったおもちゃです。
小さなプラスチックの輪を、10個くらいパチンとつなげて、かたまりを作ります。
みんなそれぞれ好きな色を組み合わせて、自分だけのチェーリングを作っていました。
The colorful five-ring pattern drawn beneath the bears is a toy called “Chae-ring,” which was popular in Japan during the Showa era.
You would snap together about ten small plastic rings to make a cluster.
Everyone chose their favorite colors and created their own unique Chae-ring.
お手玉のように上に投げて、決められた動きを繰り返す遊び方もあって、何回続けられるかを競う、ちょっとしたチャレンジゲームのような一面もありました。
この絵は、私が家で夢中でチェーリングで遊んでいたころの絵ですね(^^♪
There was also a way to play with it like a juggling game— tossing it into the air and repeating certain set movements, challenging yourself to see how many times you could continue without making a mistake.
This drawing must have been made during the time when I was completely absorbed in playing with my Chae-ring at home. (^^♪
