The Cover with a Little Seashell
アロマセラピーの本の表紙用に、貼り絵イラストを制作しました。
I created a collage illustration for the cover of an aromatherapy book.
瓶や花、ハーブなど、植物をモチーフにしたパーツをひとつひとつ作り、水色と白のストライプの背景にレイアウトしていただきました。
I made individual pieces inspired by bottles, flowers, and herbs, which were then arranged on a light blue and white striped background.
大きめの薔薇のような花は、布を重ねて表現しています。
中心が少しだけ立体的になっているのですが、そこには小さな本物の貝殻を使いました。
手元にあった淡いピンクの貝殻を、いつか何かに使いたいと思っていたので、こうして登場させることができて嬉しかったのを覚えています。
The large rose-like flower is made by layering pieces of fabric.
Its center has a slight three-dimensional feel— I used a tiny real seashell there.
I had been keeping that small pink shell for a while, hoping to use it in something someday, so I was happy to finally give it a place in this piece.
背景に添えられた植物たちは、無地と柄の布を組み合わせながら、派手になりすぎず、でも少し華やかさも感じられるように心がけて作りました。
The plants placed in the background were made by combining plain and patterned fabrics.
I tried to keep them from being too bold or too plain— just softly balanced.
発売後、素敵な後日談を聞きました。
担当された編集者さんが帰宅すると、リビングのテーブルにこの本が置かれていたそうです。
奥さまが、ご主人が関わった本とは知らずに本屋さんで見つけ、気に入って購入されていたとのこと。
After the book was released, I heard a lovely little story.
When the editor who worked on the book returned home, he found it sitting on the table in the living room.
His wife had discovered it in a bookstore and bought it because she liked it— without knowing that it was the very book he had been involved in.
そんな偶然のエピソードを聞いて、じんわりとうれしい気持ちになりました。
Hearing that story filled me with a quiet happiness.
